Please take the time to read this over and maybe even pass it along if you like. On behalf of my family and all of the other families helped by The ALS Association Upstate New York Chapter, we are asking for your help. For those of you who don’t know, in January of 2008 my wife Mary was Diagnosed w/ ALS. What is ALS? Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of it's ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages two to five years from the time of diagnosis. Presently there is no known cause or cure of the disease. Now! with modern technology and all the wonderful things that are being done in medicine these days it is difficult to understand that a ALS diagnoses today (2008) means the same to the patient as it meant in 1939 to the legendary New York Yankee, Lou Gehrig. Hopefully things will change for the better soon, but we need your help. My family and I formed a team and are participating in a fundraiser called the “Walk To Defeat ALS” August 9th in Delaware Park, (Buffalo NY) there is a website setup for donations. Please join me in supporting the ALS Society in funding research for ALS, and in providing care for people living with ALS." Just click on the link below to go to my web page http://web.alsa.org/site/TR/Walks/UpstateNewYorkWalk?px=1799473&pg=personal&fr_id=4490 Or if you prefer to make out a check to the ALS association and mail it to me.
